Discussion: Marvel Universe’s Mighty Thor

So, the last time we got together, we covered the “hows” and the “whys” the Mighty Thor was procured.  In all that entertainment, one important question wasn’t addressed. It still remains to be asked…is Thor worth it?

Well, that all depends what we’re talking here.  For the Universal Studios store price of $19.99?  Hell’s no!  For the $9.99 retail price point that you can find him at everywhere else?  Not really, either.  Not that there’s any really wrong with the figure per se.  Quite the contrary.  He’s fairly cool.  The detailing is impressive.  His cape is all kinds of “beat up” cool.  And Mjölnir?  Well that’s badass, too.  Besides the fact I like saying Mjölnir.

Referring back to the world renown Toy Valuation Theorem (TVT), though, your friendly neighborhood jman just has a hard time paying 10 bucks for a 3.75 inch figure.  To me, $7.99 is the right price point for figures this size.  But, as the saying goes…I don’t know the first thing about anything.  I just write a stupid toy blog that no one really pays attention to Market dictates price.  And clearly, enough people are buying 3.75 inch figures at $9.99 for toy manufactures/stores to charge that kind of retail.

That all being said, I wasn’t about to let 2 bucks get between me and a “good” bit, though.

But, enough about me.  We’re here to talk Thor.  The only real problem I have with the figure is the same problem I had with the Avengers’ Black Widow action figure.  No…not the ridiculous oversized accessory.  Thor thankfully doesn’t come with one of those.  What both these figures lack is a base.

C’mon, people!  These figures need stands!  They’re too articulate/too detailed to stand on their own.  Hey!  I ain’t complaining!  I like the articulation!  But, when the figures are that small, all that articulation makes them a bit fragile.  They just don’t stand well without stands (if I could figure out a way to use the word “stand” again in that sentence, for all that’s holy, I would!)  Can I get an amen?  No?

And because I couldn’t get him to stand, I had to use Asajj Ventress’ base to take these pictures.

Yes.  Again.

So…long story short.  Is Thor worth it?  I’m not telling you what to do!  The last time I told someone what to do, I caused a huge fight and I didn’t see any action for days.  But…that is a tale for another day.
